PA Resident Ruth Snyder travels to New Zealand
for IPF Bench World Championships
Ruth competeing in her
first three lift at
the 1998 Iron Lion Classic |
Thirty-seven year old Ruth Snyder sets her
sights on the Bench World Championship title
this December. Ruth lives in Spring Mills,
Pennsylvania with her husband of 18 years,
Steve, her two childred Alix and Lydia and
the family dog Chester. Steve and Ruth run
a personal training business out of their
home for individuals of all ages and levels
of fitness.
When I decided to write this article I asked
Ruth to tell me a little bit about herself.
Most of us talk about our numbers and our
family, but when I got Ruth's response I
found out much more then I could ever anticipated.
When Ruth was about 10 years old she started
to have problems with her feet. Where the
gastroneimus muscle in here calf would not
allow her to walk with her heels down. This
caused for her to need an operation to cut
this muscle and stretch it out, so that her
heel could touch the ground. After the operations
she had to wear casts on her feet for over
two years. The doctors later found out through
all the stress on her body that she had spine,
Kyphosis, Lordosis and Scoliosis, so that
furthered problems.This very painful and
lengthy process has made Ruth a stronger
person in her family life and as a lifter.
Through all her rehab years she found great
enjoyment in excercising. Ruth's first experience
with Powerlifting was as a spectator to her
husband Steve. She really had no expectations
of ever competeing. But in time Ruth entered
her first contest and really caught the bug.
It helped her set goals and shoot to achieve
them.
Ruth, just a 97 pound power house has trained
since the early 80's, but she had not entered
her first full three lift contest till 1998..That
same year she entered the USAPL BP Nationals
and came back with a Sliver medal in the
Women's Open division. This placing set new
goals and expectations on her lifting and
drove her to come back and win the national
title.
This year she accomplished that goal and
now she sets her goals on the World Bench
Press title. We know Ruth will bring back
great experience from this contest and will
do USA Powerlifting and Pennsylvania proud.
We all wish all the best!!!
